Simple, Safe, and Effective
Plantar Wart Removal

We identify the source of the problem and provide a treatment plan that addresses the issue and prevents it from happening again.

Accurate Diagnosis

Plantar warts themselves are noncancerous. Since skin lesions can be malignant, however, a doctor should confirm the diagnosis of plantar warts to be safe. This may involve a small painless shave biopsy and lab test.

Rapid Results

Minimally invasive treatment options include peeling with a chemical component.  On more resistant warts, laser treatment may be used.  Other methods, such as burn, surgically cutting  or freezing may cause scarring, which should be prevented.

Preventative Care

Most people get warts from walking around barefoot in public gyms, showers, or pools. If you regularly experience plantar warts, we will discuss preventive care to minimize recurrence. Individuals with Diabetic Foot are more susceptible.

Plantar Warts Here's How It Works

Plantar warts are hard, scaly bumps that appear on the soles of the feet and make walking painful. They are more common than you might think, affecting some 14% of the general population every year. Luckily, treatment is simple and straightforward. We offer solutions that don’t require surgical intervention.

Causes & Symptoms

What causes plantar warts?

When HPV enters the skin, it causes a wart to form. Warts are contagious and can be spread through direct contact or touching something contaminated with the virus. These include warts, nail-biting, cuticle picking, or shaving.

Warts come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are usually skin-colored, but they can also be brown, grey, or black, and they may be dome-shaped, flat, or rough.

Diagnosis & Testing

How are plantar warts diagnosed?

Dr. Kipp can diagnose warts with a quick look, but sometimes they need to take a sample of the growth (biopsy) to test for HPV.

Treatment

How are plantar warts treated?

Plantar warts are a common virus that often go away after your immune system fights them off. They can be painful and unsightly though, so many doctors recommend treatment. Options include:

  • Freezing – Dr. Kipp will apply liquid nitrogen, which freezes the wart. A blister forms after freezing, and eventually the wart and blister will fall off. You may need a few treatments.
  • Immunotherapy – Immunotherapy can be an effective treatment for stubborn warts. It uses a topical chemical, such as diphencyprone (DCP), to cause an allergic reaction. The wart will go away as the immune system fights the virus.
  • Laser treatment – This procedure uses laser light to heat and destroy tiny blood vessels inside the wart.

Prevention

How are plantar warts prevented?

There’s no such thing as a cure for warts, but you can reduce your risk of catching them or stop the spread if you take these steps:

  • Don’t share personal items such as towels, washcloths, clothing, nail clippers, razors, or other people’s personal items; especially if you are contagious.
  • Don’t touch another person’s wart and don’t allow anyone to touch yours.
  • Wash your feet regularly to keep them dry and avoid touching plantar warts.

Prognosis

What’s the prognosis for someone with plantar warts?

It’s a tough road ahead. Once you have the virus, no one can guarantee that they’ll get rid of warts immediately. Sometimes, the wart comes back in the same spot. Other times, it manifests itself in a different location. But don’t fret. Lots of people get rid of their warts and never have one again!

If you want to avoid complications and treat the source of the problem from the start, schedule an appointment with Dr. Kipp today.
