Bunions

Bunions worsen with age as the cartilage wears down and concomitant ailments like arthritis set in. Since seniors may shy away from surgery, geriatric foot care often involves finding conservative means of relieving bunion pain, such as custom orthotics.

Diabetic Foot

Individuals with diabetes are more likely to experience complications as they get older. This can include issues like neuropathy, slow-healing wounds, and related infections. Geriatric foot care can identify signs of trouble early.

Nail Fungus

Toenail fungus is recognizable by the whitish and yellowish stain it leaves on the nail. Fungal infections are a frequent geriatric foot care issue because aging nails become more brittle, creating tiny cracks that allow fungi to enter.

Corns and calluses arise more often with age. Calluses are thickened parts of the skin caused by friction and corns consist of a small patch of thickened skin surrounded by inflammation. While calluses rarely hurt, the inflammation associated with corns can be painful.
